Brenda Smith Flynn, 84, of Albany, died Thursday, October 26th, surrounded by her loving family.

Brenda was born in Greer, SC on March 10, 1939 to the late Mary Jane Johnson and Thomas Gordon Smith. Brenda graduated from Greer High School, where she was a cheerleader with a particular eye on a stand-out basketball player - Mitchell "Mickey" Lewis Flynn.

After attending Limestone College, Brenda married Mickey in August 1959 and continued cheering from the stands throughout Mickey's final basketball season for the Presbyterian College Blue Hose.

Brenda and Mickey lived in Richmond, VA while Mickey studied Dentistry at the Medical College of Virginia. After Mickey's graduation, they lived Taylors, SC and Birmingham, AL. They moved to Albany, GA in 1972, where together they built a successful periodontal practice and raised their four children.

One of Brenda's most prized possessions was the title of Nana, as she would be known by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many others. Brenda will be remembered by her family as having a long-time FOMO affiliation (long before Fear Of Missing Out was officially recognized), a fondness for anything blue and white, an affection for big weddings, a dispenser of wise advice, and a collector of beautiful things. Most of all, for Brenda's gentle grace, heart full of love, and fun-loving spirit.

Brenda was a member of the Charity League of Albany and Porterfield Methodist Church, where she chaired the Bereavement Committee, was an active member of the Alpha Sunday School Class, and many Bible Studies.

In addition to her husband, survivors include her children, Jane Flynn Sharp (Charlie), Rebecca Flynn Lynn (Worth), Mitchell Lewis 'Mike' Flynn Jr (Mandy) and Patrick Smith Flynn (Leigh Ann); 10 grandchildren, Emily Sharp Bisceglia (Patrick), Charles Eugene Sharp III (Stephanie), William Christian Sharp, Catherine Booker Jones (Blake), John Worth Lynn, Wayne Mercer Lynn, Mitchell Lewis Flynn III, Carter Flynn James (Evans), Patrick Smith Flynn Jr. and Jane Margeson Flynn; and six great-grandchildren Jane Ellison Bisceglia, Henry Francis Bisceglia, Sophia Anne Sharp, Charles Eugene Sharp IV, Camille Summerlin Jones, William Flynn Jones, and Baby Girl James, due January 2024.

Brenda is also survived by her siblings, Thomas Gordon Smith Jr. (Rebecca), Rebecca Smith Palmer, Susan Smith Lynn (Robert), and their families.

The family would like to thank her loving caregivers, Lois English, Patricia Harvey, and Felicha Bailey, as well as Dr. Enrique Lopez and the compassionate care team of the Phoebe Surgical ICU.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Monday, October 30th, at Porterfield Methodist Church with a service to follow at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Phoebe Foundation FBO SICU, PO Box 3770, Albany, Georgia 31706 or to Porterfield Methodist Church, 2200 Dawson Road, Albany GA 31707.
