Charles (Charlie) Baylus Cox, Jr., age 71, died March 24, 2022, surrounded by family at his residence in Greer.

Born January 11, 1951, in Spartanburg, Charlie was one of four children born to the late Charles Baylus Cox, Sr. and Vivian Jeanette Carter Cox. He was a graduate of J.L. Mann High School and Tri-County Technical College, where he attained his Masters of Electricity, and attended Calvary Hill Baptist Church in Lyman.

While Charlie achieved professional success working as a Master Electrician and NCCER certified trainer on numerous national and state-side industrial projects spanning 43 years, his true love and passion was everything music. A fond memory of Charlie was sharing how his parents sacrificed to save for his first guitar at the tender age of six, which was rarely out of his hands. Dedication and perseverance lead him to Nashville, Tennessee, after high school where he pursued a career in professional music. His hard work paid off playing professionally on the Grand Ole Opry stage for many years. Oh, how he relived those glory days over and over through the years!

Charlie was beloved by everyone who every met him. An incredible father, devoted husband, and a best friend to all. No matter the circumstance, you would always leave with a smile in your heart, as he always had a joke or whimsical story to share. You literally cannot say his name without it putting a smile on your face. His love of life was evident in the way he lived. Even just sitting on the porch turned into a fun time with family, friends, and of course the guitars would come out and the singing would start! He continued playing even after his health started to decline, never turning down an opportunity to travel to nursing homes, community centers, town festivals, radio stations or playing with his beloved Sunday service Praise Team. He loved sharing the word of God through his music.
For us, he really was that pebble thrown into a lake as the lives he touched acted as ripples that extended far beyond just his family.

Charlie will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 24 years, Tambra Leigh Balding Hill; children, Christina Lynn Jeanette Cox, April Dawn Cox, Ashley Rose Cox Reynolds, Christopher Andrew Hill and Meagan Ashleigh Hill; grandchildren, Brittney, Samantha, Victoria, Finnick, Winston and Ace; and great-grandchildren, Natalie and Brooklynn.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 27, 2022, at The Wood Mortuary Chapel, 300 W. Poinsett St, Greer, South Carolina 29651, conducted by Dr. Tim Wofford.

The family is at the home.
