Emma Hester

Emma Elizabeth Wood Hester, 80, passed away April 12, 2023.

A native of Spartanburg, daughter of the late George Preston and Ruth Edwards Wood, she was the owner of Pelham Street Laundromat and faithfully attended Northwood Baptist Church. She enjoyed activities at the senior center and day care, going to her granddaughter’s spa, and loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob and Emma would have celebrated their 52nd anniversary April 21st.

Surviving are her husband, Robert E. Hester, Jr. of the home; a son, Barry Hester (Jaime) of Greer; three step-children, Tracy, Kelly, and Shane; four grandchildren, Melanie Hester, Carmen Anthony (Dominic), Brandon Hall, and Megan Hall; six great-grandchildren; and devoted caregiver, Debra Arnold.

She was predeceased by three brothers, William Othel Wood, Cecil Jack Wood, and James Stanley Wood, and two sisters, Lena “Ruthell” Wood Barnett and Evelyn Wood Bryant Cross.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 16, 2023, at Northwood Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Malcolm Lance and Rev. Daniel Waters. Burial will follow in Graceland East Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held 1-1:45 p.m. Sunday at the church.
