Evelyn Allen Satterfield of Taylors, South Carolina entered well-deserved eternal rest on September 8, 2021, at the age of 86.

Evelyn was born in Greer, SC to the late Pearl and Joseph Allen. Evelyn was preceded in death by her brother Jack Allen, and two sisters, Mary “Eutrelia” McDaniel and Marlene Watterson. Evelyn is survived by her sons William B. Jones, III (Kendal) and Michael E. Tollison; three sisters Bernice Forrester, Patsy Pitts, Geneva Hendrix; and long-time friend and companion Howard Kalson.

Evelyn was a Navy nurse stationed in Charleston, SC in the late 1950s. After military service, she entered the civilian workforce and dedicated herself to raising her two sons. Evelyn often played the role of mother and father during a time when that wasn’t common and certainly wasn’t easy. Despite her struggles, she provided financially and furnished a loving home for her sons. Evelyn’s work ethic was her hallmark - she was employed by the Reynolds Company in Greenville for four decades and spent her “free time” over the years working at Haywood Pointe Apartments, Architectural Warehouse in Landrum and the Greenville Downtown Airport (GMU). Evelyn was at her best when she was working hard and helping others.

No memorial service is immediately planned. In remembrance of Evelyn’s life, the family asks that charitable donations be made to Senior Action, 3715 East North St., Suite K, Greenville, SC 29615 or First Presbyterian Church 200 West Washington St., Greenville, SC 29601.

Perhaps one day,
they’ll understand
all the sacrifices she gladly made
out of love for them.
