Helen Howard Clayton
Helen Howard Clayton, 92, beloved wife, mother, and meme, woke up in the arms of Jesus on May 15, 2021.
A native of Greenville County, she was born June 21, 1928 to the late Horace S. Howard and Ollie Howard Atkins. She was a retired employee of Norris Manufacturing and a member of Apalache Baptist Church. She loved Jesus, her family, her church, and people. She is remembered most for her love and kindness to others.
Surviving are her husband of 71 years, Milford William Clayton of the home; two daughters, Sandra Peterson of Greer and Elaine Guffey (Sam) of Forest City, North Carolina; a daughter-in-law, Glenda Clayton of Greer; a half-sister, Annelle Porter; six grandchildren, Donna Campbell (Travis), David Peterson (Kris), April Clayton (Dee), Heather Gordon (Robert), Clay Guffey, and Josh Guffey (Brittany); five great-grandchildren, Kayla Worley (Derrick), Hollie Peterson, Chandler Peterson, Annelise Guffey and Evelyn Guffey; two great-great-grandchildren, Kendall Worley and Weston King; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Clayton was predeceased by her son, Sammy Clayton, son-in-law, Don Peterson, granddaughter, Pam Crain, five brothers, Steve L. Howard, W.E. “Stud” Howard, Bo Howard, George Howard, and Jack Howard, and four sisters, Winfred Halford, Arlene Howard, Winnie Holtzclaw and Annette Porter.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Apalache Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Eddie Cooper and Rev. Brian Childers. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens.
Honorary escort will be the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class of Apalache Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held 9:45-10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
