Jimmie Charles Barnett, 89, passed away December 24, 2022.

A native of Greenville County, he was a son of the late T.Q. and Ellen Stokes Barnett.

When Jim finished high school, he went to work at the Greenville Highway Department, which after a few years led him to Highway Patrol School to become a Highway Patrolman. During this time, he met the love of his life, Gail Smith, and they decided to get married. Being away from home, he gave up the Highway Patrol taking a job at Homelite then retiring from Tex Tube in Greer. He was a veteran of the SC Army National Guard.

Because of his love of the Lord, he and Gail had a wonderful life of 63 years together. The Lord provided them with a large family, including two daughters, Anita Davis Tillotson (Danny) and Sheila Bagwell (Stan); six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, all being raised around them. He provided a simple life filled with being able to travel to lots of places, cruises, camping when the children were young, playing golf, and bowling. Jimmie loved all this so much. Being a member of Praise Cathedral, he loved his church and friends there, the activities, and hardly missed each week until his sickness took over.

Now his life has ended with family here, to spend time with family that has passed on to heaven. He will be waiting for all loved ones down here; hopefully they will be ready when the time comes for them.

Jimmie was also predeceased by one brother, Cecil Barnett; two sisters, Doris Campbell and Betty Hand; and one great-grandchild, Aydon Hall.

The family is grateful for the special care ProMedica Hospice gave to Jimmie and his family.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at Hillcrest Memory Gardens, conducted by Pastor Jerry Madden.

The family will receive friends Tuesday after the service at the gravesite.

The body will lie in state Monday, December 26, 2022, from 4-7 p.m. at The Wood Mortuary.

The family is at the home.

Memorials may be made to Praise Cathedral, P.O. Box 287, Greer, SC 29652.
