Linda Gaile Hendrix Lister, 85, wife of the late Larry L. Lister, passed away at her home on Sunday, June 16, 2024.

A native of Spartanburg County, South Carolina, daughter of the late William A. “Bill” and Evelyn Forest Hendrix, she was a part of the first graduating class from James F. Byrnes High School in 1956. Linda and a few of her classmates continued their friendship with “lunch with the girls” on many occasions. She was employed as a secretary with Ratterree James Insurance Company in Greer for many years. Mrs. Lister was an active and dedicated member of Abner Creek Baptist Church. Many were blessed as she served others as a member of the Bereavement Committee. She also participated in the Greer Community Ministries, Meals on Wheels Program. Linda was faithful in her service of delivering meals alone with her beautiful smile and words of kindness.

Her contagious smile and welcoming personality–gifts from God–opened another door of service as a greeter at Abner Creek for many years. That warm smile awaited all who entered Abner Creek on Sunday Mornings. Through her many acts of love, kindness, generosity, and encouragement, Linda Gaile served her Lord and became the hands and feet of Jesus.
Linda Gaile assisted with the Senior Adult Ministry at Abner Creek Baptist Church and the Good News Club at Abner Creek Academy. In addition, she served as co-chairman for the Vacation Bible School refreshment committee for several years.

She loved her family and treasured the times they had together celebrating holidays, birthdays, and weddings.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-laws, Debby L. Todd (Arnold) of Greenville, South Carolina and Dale L. Black (Rick) of Greer, South Carolina; five grandchildren, Amanda Bruce (Chris) of Greer, South Carolina, Jennifer Wilson of Duncan, South Carolina, Kala Kennemore (Shane) of Greer, South Carolina, Rose Linda Carter (Jason) of Denver, North Carolina, and Ricky Black (Kristina) of Greer, South Carolina; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ann Ballenger of Greenville, South Carolina; and one brother-in-law, Paul Brannon of Greer, South Carolina.

The family wishes to recognize Steve Wood for his expressions of love, kindness, and friendship that he brought into Linda’s life and to the lives of the entire family.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Abner Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Donald Thomas and Rev. Vernon Thornhill. Burial will follow in Abner Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
