Melvin Dewey (Layton) Jenkins went to be with his Lord on August 18, 2019.

 

He was born on July 5, 1927 to Abraham and Waneta Layton in LaCygne, Kansas. At the start of World War II he enlisted in the Navy and eventually served in all four branches of the military before retiring from the Air Force in 1964. He was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church since 1978.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Linda Jenkins, as well as four of his five children, Cheri Gardiner, Candice Jenkins, Charles Jenkins and George Martin Jenkins. His son, Craig Jenkins, predeceased him along with his granddaughter, Stephanie Jenkins.

 

He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Kristine Amin, and his “adopted” son, Ernie Choice, as well as the following grandchildren: Charmel Kapoor, Martianne Pearson, Samantha Hoshell, Jessica Jenkins, Heather Kelly, Kathryn Jenkins, Noah Jenkins, Britney Clark, Alexander Braswell, and Dominique Glenn and several great grandchildren.

 

A memorial service for Mel will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 300 O'Neal Rd, Greer, SC 29652, on September 6, 2019 at 11 a.m.
