Captain Joseph Garcia of the U.S. Corrections Special Operations Group is pictured with Max, the first Giant Schnauzer to be certified as a Corrections Special Ops K-9 in the U.S.  Garcia said the U.S. Corrections Special Operations group uses Giant Schnauzers inside detention centers, rather than other more common police breeds because they have less pet dander and cause less allergy problems with inmates.

The Spartanburg Country Sheriff’s Office is in the process of implementing a new special operations group at its detention center that will increase the safety of both its inmates and correctional officers.
