In July of 2023, the Duncan community mourned the tragic and unfathomable loss of Rashard Wright.
Wright was shot and killed outside of a Duncan apartment complex on July 8. He was only 18 years old.
Michael Dean Plumley, 60, of Taylors, is dead after being hit by a car near Wade Hampton Blvd. and Tappan Drive in Taylors.
On December 14 around 10 p.m., the South Carolina Highway Patrol and Greenville County Coroners Office responded to the incident location for a motor vehicle versus pedestrian accident.
On the morning of December 21, around 8 a.m., Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a shooting in Wellford.
The incident occurred at 502 Shiloh Church Road, where the victim told deputies he went to his cousin’s house and knocked on the door and heard someone inside ask, “Who is it?”
The Wellford Police Department is warning residents that non-marked tow trucks are wrongly towing vehicles in the Wellford area, after officers received reports of these cases.

Tommy Lee Tyler, 18, of Duncan, was arrested on Tuesday, Dec. 5, by the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office as a suspect in an armed robbery. He was the third suspect arrested in the case, as the additional two were previously taken into custody.
This time of year, robbery and larceny crimes can increase by about 20 percent, and according to Wellford Police Chief David Green, he sees the increase for himself each December.
