RIVERSIDE SWEEPS
ADE HAMPTON, LAURENS
Riverside Lady Warrior volleyball — both JV and Varsity — got off to a hot start in region play this past week with 3-0 sweeps of their first two region opponents of the season, Wade Hampton and Laurens.
Fin Hyde is a 6-foot-2, 175-pound wide receiver at Eastside High School. Hyde put on one of his best performances Friday against Travelers Rest, a performance that included a 75-yard touchdown reception to open the game’s scoring in the Eagles’ 21-15 win.
On a night when Eastside football history was made, the Eagles collected their second win of the season by defeating Blue Ridge, 54-40.
“I’m a defensive-minded head coach,” said Eastside head coach Andre Woolcock. “I hate to admit it, but it was definitely a shoot-out.”
With just seconds to go in the first half, Riverside found itself with the ball trailing 14-7. The offense had struggled to get much going heading into halftime.
Quarterback Ty Breeze knew he had to make a play.
After a dismal showing against Byrnes, Greer is going back to the drawing board before traveling to Boiling Springs this Friday night.
Time was a factor in Byrnes’ 49-13 crushing win over Greer on Friday night. The Yellow Jackets picked a bad time to play the Rebels when they were shifting into high gear. Andrew Stevens had eons of time to throw the ball. There were scads of TV time outs. Greer threw untimely pass interceptions and didn’t take time to collect a kickoff.
Byrnes High’s James Oates was named The Greer Citizen/Owens Insurance Defensive Player of the Week; Greer High’s Chris Hall was named The Greer Citizen/Owens Insurance Offensive Player of the Week and Paden Armstrong was named The Greer Citizen/Owens Lineman of Week 2..
Garrett Hall is a 6-foot-3, 260-pound senior offensive lineman at Byrnes who is one of the premier talents in the trenches for the Rebels.
