It’s the end of the year and we, as sports fans, know what that means: It’s time to take a look back at the great plays and the players who made them, lest we forget. This week we profile two instant legends from the hard court and the rink.
Some of the most dramatic moments of the year often come on a football field or a baseball diamond.
Throughout 2015, there have been plenty of those moments in the Greer area.
Whether it be coaching changes, championship celebrations or rivalry games,
2015 had no shortage of excitement for our local teams.
The Greer boys basketball team continued its hot streak at the FCA Classic Christmas tournament this week, knocking off Riverside in a first round matchup.
Head coach Greg Miller, who coached at Riverside last season, said it was a big win for his team.
The Riverside girls basketball didn’t see the outcome it wanted Monday night, falling to T.L. Hanna in the first round of the Lady Sandlapper Christmas tournament, 62-40.
The Warriors had several costly turnovers, allowing Hanna to pull away in the second half.
The Greer girls basketball team picked up wins over Ashley Ridge (61-51) and North Myrtle Beach (63-38) during a Christmas tournament in Charleston this week, advancing to the championship game.
The Lady Jackets have done it all without one of their best players.
Greer’s versatile cornerback, Troy Pride Jr., will play his college football at Notre Dame, committing to the Fighting Irish last week.
Pride had previously been committed to Virginia Tech, but he reopened his recruitment after head coach Frank Beamer stepped down.
He announced his decision on Twitter on Christmas Eve.

The Sandlappers could not overcome the strong play of North Carolina quarterback Austin Kendall, who tossed three touchdown passes in the Tar Heels’ 54-39 Shrine Bowl victory over the weekend.
