Bragging rights are on the line once again this week as Blue Ridge and Greer get set to battle in a Thursday night showdown.

Each year, the rivalry brings something new and this season’s matchup should be no different.

Sixteen Upstate golfers will compete at Pebble Beach Resorts this weekend during the national finals of the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) Golf Classic.

A Byrnes team that began the season on a hot streak isn’t slowing down.

The Rebels knocked off J.L. Mann (57-51) and Boiling Springs (72-31) this week, moving to 13-1 on the year. Despite the pair of wins, Byrnes coach Layne Fowler said he needed better effort from his players.

The Lady Yellow Jackets were able to shake off the holiday rust last week, earning region wins over Berea (64-49) and Chapman (86-38).

With the pair of victories, Greer improves to 3-4 in conference action this season.

Taylor Thompson has been stepping up for Eastside, helping her team remain undefeated in region competition.

Thompson has scored 48 points in the last three games, and for her efforts, The Greer Citizen and Owens Insurance named her female Player of the Week.

Jaylan Foster and Byrnes boys basketball team have already won 13 games this season, but they’re hoping for much more.

Foster was recently named MVP of the Dorman Christmas Classic, scoring 44 points in three games. For his performance, he has been selected as this weeks Greer Citizen/Owens Insurance male Player of the Week.

The Boston Red Sox have announced their minor league coaching staffs for 2015, and some familiar faces will be part of the Greenville Drive’s 10th season in Downtown Greenville. 

Taylor Thompson and the Eastside girls basketball team knocked off Greer for a third time last week, claiming the Lady Sandlapper Holiday Classic championship.

Twenty points from Thompson was enough for Eastside to pull away with a 57-45 victory over the Yellow Jackets, as the Lady Eagles head back into region play this week.
