Two local athletes had their names written in the history books last week, joining an elite club that few can say they are a part of.

Riverside’s Myles Smith and Byrnes’ Brianna James each registered their 1,000th career point last Friday, sealing four-year careers that have seen plenty of success.

Jaylan Foster, left, is named The Greer Citizen/Owens Insurance male Player of the Week. He is pictured with coach Adam McClain.

Jaylan Foster and Byrnes boys basketball team have already won 13 games this season, but they’re hoping for much more.

Foster was recently named MVP of the Dorman Christmas Classic, scoring 44 points in three games. For his performance, he has been selected as this weeks Greer Citizen/Owens Insurance male Player of the Week.

Teliyah Jeter and the Eastside girls basketball team cruised to a Lady Sandlapper tournament title over the holidays, defeating Carolina, Travelers Rest and Greer.

Taylor Thompson and the Eastside girls basketball team knocked off Greer for a third time last week, claiming the Lady Sandlapper Holiday Classic championship.

Twenty points from Thompson was enough for Eastside to pull away with a 57-45 victory over the Yellow Jackets, as the Lady Eagles head back into region play this week.
