A life-long dream came true for Eastside senior Wesley Johnson last week.
The 6’8” power forward signed a letter of intent to continue his basketball career at Charleston Southern. Johnson said he is eager for the opportunity.

I keep two binders on a bookshelf at my house. One is of all the positive letters, emails and cards I have received during my time at The Greer Citizen. The other is for the negative feedback I have received.
The Westwood Redhawks, flying high on a five-game winning streak, will descend on Greer for the second round of the AAA football playoffs. The 7:30 pm. contest at Dooley Field will be an even tougher challenge than the game with Emerald that went down to the wire last week.
The last time a Bobby Bentley-led Byrnes team won a state title was the 2005-06 season. The Rebels will try to change that over the next four weeks in Bentley’s first season back at the helm.
The first team standing in the way will be Wando, which will pay a visit to Nixon Field on Friday.
Before the season began, the Riverside girl’s cross country team had a goal. The Lady Warriors not only wanted to win the Class AAAA state title, but wanted to do by defeating the second place team by triple digits.
A heavy favorite, Byrnes trailed Wade Hampton 21-20 at halftime last Friday.
“I was just hoping that we could keep our composure and not give up,” junior Tavaris Jeter. “The coaches told us not to give up and to keep playing.
Byrnes turned things around in the second half and pulled away for a 47-21 win.
Jud Blackwell of Taylors won $50 in The Greer Citizen’s Football Contest last week.
Blackwell was one of two participants to miss two games and won via tiebreaker.
