After watching his team get a convincing 28-7 win over Palmetto last Friday in the Daniel Jamboree, Greer football coach Will Young called his team’s final tune-up for the regular season “sluggish.”

Greer’s relatively young football team learned a few lessons Friday night at the School of Hard Knocks. Better known as the Byrnes Jamboree, the two quarters of competition resulted in a 21-6 thrashing at the hands of the hosting Rebels before a large crowd of early bird fans.

Byrnes kicks off new season at Northwestern

The Byrnes football team will open its quest for a state title at Northwestern, hoping to avenge last year’s haunting 42-35 overtime loss to the Trojans.

Blue Ridge and Riverside will not meet up in the regular season, but the teams scrimmaged last week after the cancellation of the FCA Jamboree. Both the Warriors and the Tigers will participate in The Ridge Jamboree this weekend.

Byrnes volleyball coach Katie Jolley will not exactly be starting from scratch this year, as she returns five starters to what she believes is a “promising” roster.

The Rebels will host the Byrnes Invitational this Friday before squaring off in a tri-match with Chapman, Landrum and Spartanburg Christian Academy on Monday.
