Whenever Greer High running back Quez Nesbitt is asked about his success, he always credits the play of his offensive line.

Blue Ridge’s season came to an end last Friday with a 20-14 loss at Belton-Honea Path in the first round of the Class AAA state playoffs.

Wade Hampton found itself within a half of pulling off the state’s biggest upset of the season last Friday night when the 3-7 Generals were leading nationally-ranked Byrnes at halftime, 21-20.

Byrnes used the break to make a few adjustments, however, and dominated the second half for a 47-21 victory.

Greer overcame more perils than found in a B grade zombie movie in the state AAA football playoff opener Friday night.

The Yellow Jackets kept their football season alive by finding a new level of grit and determination to overcome a tough Emerald High team, 34-30.

Phil Smith’s first season as Riverside’s football coach ended with a 35-3 loss at Dorman that dropped the Warriors to 0-11.

“We just didn’t execute well on offense,” Smith said. “We lost eight yards on our first play. We had open wide receivers that we just didn’t have the time to see and hit.”

Greer High School will celebrate homecoming week with several activities including a kick-off parade on Thursday at 4:15 p.m. Visitors can line Main Street between Memorial Methodist Church and Bonds Career Center to see class representatives, senior football sponsors, class and club floats, and the band.
