My final thoughts

I keep two binders on a bookshelf at my house. One is of all the positive letters, emails and cards I have received during my time at The Greer Citizen. The other is for the negative feedback I have received.

Emanuel Kelly and the Greer Yellow Jackets will host Westwood in the second round of the Class AAA state playoffs on Friday.

Jackets to host Westwood

The Westwood Redhawks, flying high on a five-game winning streak, will descend on Greer for the second round of the AAA football playoffs. The 7:30 pm. contest at Dooley Field will be an even tougher challenge than the game with Emerald that went down to the wire last week.

The Riverside Lady Warriors won the Class AAAA title on Saturday with 43 points, 127 points ahead of second place J.L. Mann.

Lady Warriors win state

Before the season began, the Riverside girl’s cross country team had a goal. The Lady Warriors not only wanted to win the Class AAAA state title, but wanted to do by defeating the second place team by triple digits.

Blackwell wins $50

Jud Blackwell of Taylors won $50 in The Greer Citizen’s Football Contest last week.

Blackwell was one of two participants to miss two games and won via tiebreaker.

Football fans are invited to participate in the weekly contest by clipping out and turning in the entry form that will appear in each Wednesday’s sports section.

Lyrics Klugh returned a kick 88 yards for a score, but the play was called back on a penalty.

Rebels adjust, beat Wade Hampton

Wade Hampton found itself within a half of pulling off the state’s biggest upset of the season last Friday night when the 3-7 Generals were leading nationally-ranked Byrnes at halftime, 21-20.

Byrnes used the break to make a few adjustments, however, and dominated the second half for a 47-21 victory.
